Installing the Acticheck companion app on an iPhone

For the app to work the iPhone must be running iOS 10.2 or above (all up to date phones do) and be an iPhone 5 or above.

  1. On your iPhone visit the AppStore and search on ‘Acticheck’
  2. When you have found Acticheck click on ‘download’ cloud icon.
  3. Click on OPEN
  4. You will be asked to grant permission for Acticheck to ‘access your location even when you are not using the app’ Click on ALLOW.
  5. Enter your phone number in the box using the format starting +44 (or your country code if not a UK number) instead of 0.
  6. Click on SEND
  7. In a few seconds you will receive a Passcode by text message (SMS). Please enter this 4 digit code on the next screen and then press ENTER PASSCODE
  8. The next screen shows a picture of an Assure smartband next to an ‘Internet globe’ Icon. Click on SETTINGS below the band.
  9. Click on Pair Band.
  10. On the next screen click on SCAN. When the iPhone is scanning the button will change to say STOP.
  11. While the iPhone is scanning hold your band facing upwards (orange towards the floor) and press a single button for up to 10 seconds.
  12. When the iPhone sees the band it will show a picture of an Assure band on the screen along with its unique code, Click on the picture.
  13. When asked ‘Do you want to save this band?’ click on SAVE.
  14. Click on the Back arrow (top left) which says ‘HOME’ next to it.
  15. Now go back to the App home screen. Press a single button on the band for up to ten seconds. The icon under the wristband picture should turn to a tick (without a picture of a house) followed shortly by the globe. This shows that the wristband is now connected through the phone and will know in future to look for it if it cannot communicate through the base station.
A tick with a house means it is connected through the base station.

Your app is now active and will call for help if you are out of range of the base and your phone has data connectivity.

IMPORTANT: You iPhone settings need adjusting

To enable your app to work reliably you need to turn off automatic updates and ensure that the app always has location access. For a full guide to ensure your settings are correct click on the button.

Using your app

After installing the App, verifying the number of the mobile phone and pairing the band the App should be left active (not closed or  ‘swiped’).

That is all you need to do. If you restart your phone or there is an Apple update to the operating system you should check that the app has automatically opened and open it if it has not. Some updates will require you to revalidate your phone number.

What to expect when looking at your app

When the App first starts it waits for the Assure band to connect.

If the band is within range of the Assure base it will not try and connect to the App and there will be a red X under the BAND and GLOBE icons.

  • When the band goes out of range of the base it will try and link to the App.
  • The BAND icon should then change to a green tick.
N.B. It is normal if no alert is being called to take up to 30 minutes.
  • When the phone has a data connection it will send a message to the Acticheck server and will show a green tick under the GLOBE icon.
A green tick under the BAND and a red X under the GLOBE indicates that there is no data connection.
  • When the band returns into range of the base it will connect to the base and the BAND icon on the app will change to a red X.
This can take up to 60 minutes.
  • The GLOBE icon on the App will continue to show a green tick for as long as the iPhone has internet access (either through mobile data or wifi).

In all circumstances, if the wearer raises an alert (by pressing both buttons or if a fal is detected) the band will immediately try and connect to the last successful endpoint (base or App)and if it cannot connect will then try the other endpoint.
