Acticheck Support Guide
Everything you need to get set up and understand how your Acticheck life-saving wristband works — from first setup through to how alerts, responders, and predictive analytics all fit together.
Getting Started with Acticheck
Setting up Acticheck is designed to be simple, whether you’re setting it up for yourself or for someone else.
1. Choose your system
- Broadband-only base station — if you have a reliable home broadband connection, this plugs in via the supplied cable.
- Cellular-enabled base station — if you don’t have broadband at home, this connects independently over the mobile network.
Both versions work seamlessly with the Acticheck smartphone app (Android and iPhone) for coverage away from home.
2. Unbox and connect
Everything you need is included in the box — the wristband, base station, and all necessary plugs and cables. A printed user guide is included, explaining setup step by step and introducing every feature so you can decide which ones are useful for you.
3. Register wearers and responders
The wearer is the person who wears the wristband. Responders are the people who agree to be contacted for help — typically family, friends, or neighbours. Each responder’s phone number and email need to be validated in the system before alerts can reach them.
Need help setting up?
Call our support line and we’ll talk you through it — including situations where the wearer’s home doesn’t have internet access, where we can guide the whole installation over the phone.
Setting Up Responders
Responders are the people who get called when an alert is raised — there’s no special app required, just a valid phone number.
Adding a responder
- Enter the responder’s name, phone number, and (optionally) email address in your dashboard.
- The responder receives an automated verification call.
- They confirm they’re happy to act as a responder for the wearer.
That’s it — once verified, they’re added to the call sequence for future alerts.
What responders can expect
If an alert is raised, responders receive a phone call asking if they’re able to help. If they accept, they’ll hear key information (such as the wearer’s address and any saved details like a keysafe code), and the same information is sent to them by SMS and email. If a responder can’t help, simply not answering or hanging up moves the alert to the next responder in the list.
Administrators
Some responders can also be given admin permissions, allowing them to manage the system — adding or removing responders, adjusting the timing of “I’m OK” checks, and viewing the activity dashboard.
If no responder is available
For extra peace of mind, an optional fallback call response centre is available. If none of your personal responders can be reached, this TSA-accredited, 24/7 service will contact the wearer and responders directly, and call emergency services if needed.
Understanding Alerts and Call Flows
Acticheck has three ways an alert can be triggered, and a clear process for what happens next.
What can trigger an alert
- SOS call — squeeze the wristband buttons together to call for help at any time.
- Automatic fall detection — the wristband monitors for severe falls that lead to immobility, with no action needed from the wearer.
- “I’m OK” checks — at times you choose (typically morning and evening), the wristband vibrates; pressing either button confirms everything is fine.
Pre-alert checks
Before a full alert is raised, the system gives the wearer a chance to cancel it. The wristband buzzes as a pre-alert check — pressing a button confirms help isn’t needed and stops the alert there. If there’s no response after two pre-alert checks, the full alert sequence begins.
The alert sequence
- The system calls the first responder, who hears details of the situation and any saved emergency information.
- If they can help, this is recorded, and the information is also sent to them by SMS and email.
- If they can’t help (or don’t answer), the next responder in the list is called.
- If a fallback call response centre is subscribed to and no responder is available, the response centre takes over — contacting the wearer and responders, and calling emergency services if necessary.
Using the Smartphone App vs. Base Station
The Acticheck wristband works with two complementary layers of coverage: the home base station and the smartphone app.
Base station — home & garden
The wristband links to your base station (869MHz) to give resilient coverage throughout the home and garden. This is where most attention is focused, since it’s the place people are most likely to remain undiscovered for long periods if something happens.
Smartphone app — away from home
The free Acticheck app (Android and iPhone) extends coverage wherever you go. It links automatically to the wristband as long as the phone is nearby — no action needed from the wearer. The app is a valuable extension of coverage, but isn’t recommended as the primary method of coverage at home, since it’s easy to inadvertently lose contact with the phone (left in another room, out of battery, etc.), whereas the base station is fixed and reliable.
Which base station do I need?
- Have reliable home broadband? Use the broadband-only base station.
- No home broadband? Use the cellular-enabled base station.
Either way, the smartphone app works the same, giving you seamless coverage both at home and away.
Predictive Analytics
Predictive analytics is Acticheck’s early-warning feature, included automatically for all users at no extra cost.
What it is
It looks for meaningful changes in a wearer’s daily activity — changes that might indicate a developing health issue, before it turns into an emergency.
What data it uses
The wristband reports movement roughly every 15 minutes and can tell when it’s being worn. Over time, this builds a personal baseline of the wearer’s normal activity pattern — how active they typically are through the day, and how they typically sleep at night.
What it looks for
Each day, the system compares recent activity against that personal baseline. If there’s a significant deviation — for example, an unusually inactive day or a disturbed night’s sleep — it’s flagged automatically.
What happens next
If a significant change is detected, an email notification is sent to the wearer’s designated responders (and anyone with admin access). On the dashboard, the wearer’s baseline is shown as a “golden line,” with real-time activity plotted against it every 15 minutes, so responders can see exactly what changed and when.
Why it matters
Many predictive systems only catch a problem once someone’s condition has become quite poor, because people are creatures of habit and don’t change behaviour easily. Acticheck’s continuous, all-day tracking is designed to catch smaller, earlier changes — giving responders a chance to check in well before a crisis develops.
