Alerts, warnings and pre-alert checks

Alerts

When help might be needed urgently automated phone calls to make are used to make sure the message has got through. This is used for SOS calls, possible falls and unacknowledged ‘wellness check-ins’

Warnings

When there is information which does not signify immediate danger we will deliver an email warning. This is used for ‘Comfort zone’ and Basecommunication lost warnings.

Pre-alerts checks

As well as being annoying false alarms can stop people responding quickly. Acticheck give the wearer two opportunities to confirm they don’t need help before making alert calls.

Call for help

This is the most straightforward of the alerts.

By squeezing both buttons together at the same time an SOS call is started. If the wearer does not cancel the call during the pre-alerts checks (see ‘How it works’) responders will recieve automated calls in order until one agrees to respond by pressing ‘1’ on their keypad.

Fall monitoring

The Acticheck can be set to always listen for signs of a fall. We use advanced algorithms to listen for an impact followed by lack of movement that could indicate a fall.

We listen for the typical ‘jerk’ pattern that is associated with a fall but because the Assure is designed for people who lead active lives and may naturally create such a pattern during the course of sports or activities we also listen for a period of low activity afterwards.

If we suspect a fall we will trigger the pre-alert checks (see ‘How it works’) before calling responders for assistance.

You can configure the Assure to the needs of the individual, however, detecting falls from wrist worn devices is difficult because there are so many action that could apply to the wrist during a fall, this means that if able to make an SOS call, by squeezing the buttons together, you should.

Because fall detection is such a complicated area we have a page dedicated to configuring
Fall detection (click here).

I’m OK checks

These are unique to Acticheck and mean that we actively check that the wearer is able to acknowledge they don’t need help.

At chosen times during the day, normally soon after you’d expect the wearer to be awake, before they go to bed and perhaps in the early afternoon , the band will buzz on their wrist and they can confirm they don’t need help by pressing a single button on their wristband. Repeated failure to acknowledge the buzz over a four minute period will escalate into the pre-alert checks and ultimately an alert.

If the band is out of range of the base or we detect it is not being worn, the Wellness check-in will not be delivered but anyone with administrator permission on the account will receive an email letting them know the reason for the non-delivery.

System warning

No system can be guaranteed to remain connected all the time.

Many traditional systems suggest a monthly check to make sure the system is still working and the assumption is that it is working and that not hearing from a user is good news. However it could be there has been a power cut or a fault in the system and that the user is unable to get a message out.

Because the Assure uses internet technology and is in constant communication with our database we monitor for a loss of communication. If this happens people with ‘admin’ status will receive a warning email so they can cover all eventualities.
